  • Two at the Hayworth
The Hayworth Theatre is busy. On Monday, April 21, at 8 p.m., its Bruno Kirby Celebrity Reading Series continues with The Crowd You're In With, in which "Ugly Betty's" Michael Urie (pictured), Hamish Linklater ("The New Adventures of Old Christine"), Wendie Malick ("Just Shoot Me") and Dan Lauria ("The Wonder Years") appear. Then, April 22-23 at 8 p.m., Scott Ritter, the former UN Weapons Inspector, appears in a theatrical presentation called Waging Peace: The Art of War for the Antiwar. This guy was one of the United Nations Special Commission's most senior inspectors in Iraq between 1991 and 1998, and now makes the theater, school and legislature rounds to stimulate dialogue about Iran and Iraq. Hayworth Theatre, 2509 Wilshire Blvd., (213) 389-9860 or thehayworth.com.

  • Takes Two to 'Fango'
Horror magazine Fangoria and marketing/merchandising company Creation Entertainment (of the Star Trek Con) have long co-produced the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors, aka Fango. Lest anyone think horror junkies make a tiny niche, Fango unfolds this year in the vast L.A. Convention Center for the first time, April 25-27 (Friday, 2-8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.). Hundreds of horror celebrities, such as author-director-artist Clive Barker and Evil Dead producer Rob Tapert turn out, upcoming horror flicks are screened, collectibles are on sale, and there's a scary tattoo contest, a Spooks Model Competition and a carnival-style sideshow. Highlights include panels with stars from TV's "Moonlight," Psycho and Night of the Living Dead (George Romero will show up for the 40th anniversary tribute). For a taste, check out the convention's website (fangocon.com). It's like tumbling through the scary movie looking glass - you may be surprised by how many horror actors you're familiar with and by the serious request that during Q&A sessions, conventioneers neither fawn over the horror celebrities nor ask for hugs. 1201 S. Figueroa St., fangocon.com.

  • Sandra on 24th Street
In the past, writer and radio personality Sandra Tsing Loh has done one-woman shows at the 24th Street Theatre that talk about family life in adult ways - the Dante-esque quest to find the right public school, for instance. She shows up again at the venue Saturday, April 26, at 1 p.m., but this time with a program that won't just make the adults crack up. "Gone in 60 Seconds" is an improvised sing-along built on the premise that everybody has a minute of magic to belt out; the string of events it's a part of, the Saturday Explorer Series, is intended as a way for parents to share cool art with their kids (in this case, aged 4 and up). Live music by the Blue People Group. $5 admission, but free for neighborhood residents. 1117 W. 24th St., (213) 745-6516 or 24thstreet.org.

  • McKenzie's First Solo Show in L.A.
Jamaica native Dave McKenzie's first solo show in L.A. opens at the Gallery at REDCAT Wednesday, April 23. McKenzie likes his art shenanigans. In past shows, he wore a large head of his own likeness and passed out bobbleheads of himself, videotaped himself walking the streets of Harlem in a Bill Clinton mask and shaking hands with residents (this just after Clinton set up shop in the neighborhood), and at the Whitney distributed datebooks listing his future whereabouts so people could meet up with him. But it's not all fun and games - McKenzie's also exploring the idea of public space and cultural exchange. This show, Screen Doors on Submarines, runs through June 15. 631 W. Second St., (213) 237-2800 or redcat.org.

  • One Afternoon With Gronk
Gronk - a Downtowner, a Chicano art trailblazer, a gay art and punk scene figurehead, and now a busy theater and opera designer - will walk across the street from his longtime loft to the New LATC on Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m. for a discussion moderated by Chon A. Noriega of the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center. They'll surely talk about LACMA's new Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement exhibition, in which Gronk's work looms large. 514 S. Spring St. In Theater 2. $10. (213) 489-0994 or thenewlatc.com.
