DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES – (This story originally published Friday, Nov. 6, 5:22 p.m.) The City Planning Commission next week will consider a plan to add hundreds of thousands of square feet of office, hotel and residential space to the 27-acre L.A. Live sports and entertainment complex.
L.A. Live developer the Anschutz Entertainment Group, according to a Planning Department report, plans eventually to develop 332,618 square feet of office space and a 269,182-square-foot broadcasting studio that could accommodate a nationwide cable television network, a 275-room hotel and a 25-story residential building with 65 units adjacent to the L.A. Live campus.
The Commission is scheduled to take up the matter on Thursday, Nov. 12.
AEG officials were not immediately able to provide details about the expansion or its timeline.

" What about the retail component. When is a developer going to think about retail? LA Live is great...for eating.
The big hopes for 7th street has brought some food and a Walgreens. Big deal, what about retail shopping??? "

" Awesome news. What I'm thinking about the 269,182-square-foot broadcasting studio that could accommodate a nationwide cable television network is that it can possibly be Oprah. Sounds crazy I know but a couple of days ago there was an article saying Oprah could be moving to Los Angeles starting her own network. Hey it's just a thought doesn't have to be true. "

" I agree there needs to be some retail stores and more affordable restaurants, This would help AEG attract the locals and not just out of towners or tourist. This would also help add a little more life to the area, not just when there is a game or concert. Movie theater is great but parking to see a movie should be reduced from 5 to 2 dollars. "

" I agree with everyone's comments. Retail would be really great to mix in with the restaurants, sporting events, concerts and movies. I would really love to see something like Best Buy, Target, and Barnes & Noble.
Also, I agree with Dell's note about the movie theater parking. They already charge an arm and a leg for a ticket, plus your other arm and leg for the popcorn, drinks, candy, etc. Why not make parking free with movie validation?
Lastly, hotel will be a must. This will help bring more business to the convention center. It will truly be an all-around great destination for any purpose while also catering to the local residences. "

" The retail portion of south park is suppose to be the LA Central project across the street from staples on 11th street. this project is suppose to tie in the blue/expo line stop all the way to LA Live, with two 50 story plus towers, a hotel, condos, and a 4 story podium(i think 4 stories) full of retail. Tenants that were being floated back a couple years ago were whole foods, apple, and so forth. obviously with construction financing the way it is, it will be a couple years till ground breaking, but i think the project is fully entitled and ready to go.
