DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES – An artists’ reception for the new art installation at the Robert F. Kennedy Inspiration Park will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, which would have been Kennedy’s 85th birthday.
The Inspiration Park, which was dedicated last week, is at the site of the former Ambassador Hotel, where Kennedy was assassinated and the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools complex opened in September.
Artists May Sun and Richard Wyatt created the permanent art installation, a smaller “pocket park” that includes sculptures and a 6-by-24-foot stainless steel entryway. Steel walls are engraved with passages from Kennedy’s speeches.
The project also features a glass sheet with Kennedy’s image etched on it, and a dark blue floor with inset lights to reflect the starlit night, representing a Shakespeare passage Kennedy quoted at his brother’s funeral.
The reception is open to the public. It starts at 4:30 p.m. and the artists will attend. The park is at 3400 Wilshire Blvd.
