Art imitates life on Thursday, Oct. 25, when the 297-unit Barker Block loft community (510 Hewitt St.) opens with an interactive performance by Cornerstone Theatre. Developer Kor Group has partnered with the Arts District theater company on Loft Life, in which actors become "residents" in the project's model units. Actors portraying loft denizens may invite the audience to join in, and will reference personalities and places within the district. The grand opening will also include papier-mâché puppet displays by Arte Calidad Gallery, along with Spanish-themed tapas, sangria, margaritas and live Spanish guitar music. The development unfolds in the former Barker Block furniture factories and warehouses that date to the 1880s. The event runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
