DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Here’s an item from the “Now for something completely different category”: A giant slip and slide is coming to Downtown Los Angeles.

An event called Slide the City, organized by McFarlane Promotions in San Diego, plans to set up a long vinyl slide on Sept. 27. According to McFarlane Promotions, the route will be along Olive between Third and Sixth streets.

According to the Slide the City website, the course is “1,000 feet of soapy vinyl.” The company describes it as “a family friendly slip-and-slide water party event. There will be live music, food, drinks, water, and of course the biggest slip and slide ever to hit asphalt.”

Prices will be $15 for one ride and $25 for three slides. Those who pay $35 get unlimited access. There is also a $45 VIP ticket.

There will be Slide the City events in dozens of cities over the next few months.

The website says riders must be at least four feet tall. Riders can wear whatever they want, except for jeans with rivets.
