DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES – Police are investigating the murder of a man found beaten to death in his Skid Row apartment.

Raymond Sweet, 47, was found dead at about 7 a.m. on April 15 in his room at the Veterans of America center at 622 S. Wall St. after a resident reported a foul odor emanating from the room.

Preliminary examinations suggest that the victim had been dead for more than three days, police said. The cause of death was ruled as blunt force trauma.

“We are following up on several leads in the case,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, in a statement. “We’re most interested in learning more about our victim’s associates and friends.”

The incident is not related to the April 13 stabbing of 35-year-old Eduardo Triana near Ninth and Hill streets. Police continue to investigate Triana’s murder, but officials lack a description of the two suspects, other than that they were seen fleeing the scene carrying trash bags.

The public is encouraged to report tips, anonymous or otherwise to Det. Brian Putnam at the Central Homicide Unit, (213) 972-1257.
