The Hertz Investment Group is considering constructing an Olympic-size ice skating rink on a 3-acre parcel of land it acquired this month adjacent to the 40-story Union Bank Plaza on 445 S. Figueroa Street, which the company bought at the same time.

Judah Hertz, president of the Hertz Investment Group, said he will decide on a plan for the property by August. Located atop Bunker Hill, the rink would be enclosed in glass, a concession to the warm California weather. "This would be a Rockefeller Center-type of rink," he said. "It's surrounded by big hotels and would give a lot of people who are planning to live Downtown things to do besides the tourist sites."

Hertz is also considering building a luxury residential high rise on the new property.
