The Library Foundation of Los Angeles raised more than $2 million at the "Made in Hollywood" millennium benefit.

At the Paramount Studios gala, Universal Studios Chair Emeritus and "Man of the Century" honoree Lew Wasserman, matched the $1 million raised by the benefit. Mayor Richard Riordan, who was in attendance, said he was "awed" by the Wasserman family's generosity and that of guests attending the event.

'Reading and writing are the keys to the success of our city in the next century,' Riordan said. 'This shows that Angelinos care about children and care about the city."

The donations will go to the 21st Century Fund for Children and Reading.
