DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - If simply living on the edge isn't exciting enough for you, then you'll have a chance to go right over it and help out some kids while you're at it.
The second annual Over the Edge fundraiser for the Boy Scouts of America gives people a chance to scale down the outside of a building. It's set for Oct. 7 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel. The event is a benefit for the organization's Inner City Scouts program, which helps financially disadvantaged kids in the Los Angeles area become Boy Scouts, a cost of about $500 per year.
Those who want to rappel down the glass walls of the 32-story building must raise $1,500 for the event. That can be in the form of a personal donation or by raising the funds through sponsors by working with the Boy Scouts, who will set up an online pledge page you can email to friends.
There is also the option of throwing your boss of the building with the Toss Your Boss campaign where co-workers can get the funds together to legally throw your boss over the edge.
Last year the event raised about $100,000 and this year organizers hope to double that figure. But hurry, as of this week there were only 25 spots left. To register go to otescouts.org or call (213) 413-4403. The last day to register is Oct. 5.
