Cushman Realty Corporation announced first quarter market absorption and vacancy rates for several areas, including Downtown.
Downtown was the only sub-market to experience negative net absorption of 440,462 square feet, largely due to the end of Arthur Anderson's 124,000-square-foot direct lease at 911 Wilshire Blvd., and more than 100,000 square feet of Deloitte & Touche space at 1000 Wilshire Blvd.
Although the area is suffering from fallout by some of the more traditional tenants, said Mitchell Russ, manager of real estate services for Cushman, Downtown continues to be successful in attracting Telecom companies. Metro Media Network and Adelphia Communications leased space at the former AT&T building at 611 West Sixth Street, on the market for only a short time.
Cushman also reported an increase in the vacancy level of two percent to 25.8 percent.
