David Chang’s uber-popular Majordomo and Bavel, Ori Menashe and Genevieve Gergis’ love letter to Middle Eastern cuisine, were selected as semi-finalists for the James Beard Foundation’s 2019 Best New Restaurant Award.

Majordomo, at 1725 Naud St. in Chinatown, opened in January 2018 and has been lauded for its marriage of Asian and American cuisines. Bavel, a follow-up to Menashe and Gergis’ Bestia, arrived last April at 500 Mateo St.

The finalists will be announced on March 27.
